Research Overview
Dr. Bryan is a 2006 recipient of the American Psychological Association’s Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology in the area of Health Psychology. Dr. Bryan's programmatic research is focused on health psychology that synthesizes psychological, physiological, and genetic determinants of behavior with the goal of developing theoretically and empirically based interventions to increase healthy behavior. The two behaviors she is currently focusing on in this work are HIV/STD prevention with high risk adolescents and exercise promotion with sedentary adults, and this work has been funded by NIAAA, NIDA, and NCI. Related to her interests in health psychology, Dr. Bryan also studies the statistical and methodological issues encountered in prevention and field research, and has specific interests in structural equation modeling and mediational analysis of intervention effects. Finally, Dr. Bryan has secondary interests in the study of attraction, mating, and romantic relationships from an evolutionary social psychological perspective.
