Research Overview
Dr. Delaney’s research interests include spirituality and mental health issues in community-dwelling elders. In 2003, Dr. Delaney developed the Spirituality Scale (SS), a 23-item instrument to assess spirituality in adult populations. Her present focus is on developing spirituality-based interventions for use with the SS using music, imagery, and meditation. She is the principal investigator of a study partially funded by the American Holistic Nurses Association to explore the influence of spirituality-based interventions on anxiety, quality of life, and spirituality in cardiac patients to begin in summer 08.
Currently, she is completing a post-doctoral fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Richard Fortinsky, Professor, UConn Center on Aging at the University of Connecticut Health Center. She is working on a grant with Dr. Fortinsky to introduce an Advanced Practice RN (APRN) intervention for patients with dementia and their family caregivers in primary care settings and is writing another grant involving home care interventions for older persons with depression receiving home care services.
